I lead the conceptual design for Autodesk’s first-of-its-kind Raas (Rendering-as-a-service) app. Raas can achieve 100% accurate rendering on mobile devices because the compute intensive rendering happens remotely, where it can scale to many CPU’s and take advantage of unused cloud compute resources. The UX centers on a content network of shared assets generated by the A360 community.

Problems to Solve
Democratize the creation of stunning 3D images. Enable non-experts to make stunning 3D renderings
Demonstrate the viability of the Raas technology platform
Make rendering more affordable within the 3D design process
Instead of setting up complicated rendering environments that are traditionally the domain of rendering experts, Prooflab uses a ‘synthetic photography’ metaphor:  non-rendering experts who know how to shoot photos, and set up a scene on a photo set. By moving lights around physically, the scene can be optimized.
Elements from different scenes can be dragged directly into other scenes. Content is shared that same way Pinterest users share regular flat images.
However, the rendering environment lets the user reshoot the image and apply real rendering effects as photographic choices. For example, the scene can use depth of field effects to sharpen focus on one part of the scene just like a photographer can.
